Exchange study at the University of Zagreb under the bilateral agreement
For: Undergraduate · Postgraduate · PhD
The University of Zagreb admits exchange students who come under a formal exchange programme between their home university and Zagreb, including bilateral agreements, and it publishes a nomination and application procedure for them. Whether the 2022 agreement with Benue State University actually provides student exchange places has not been verified, so a MOAUM student cannot apply until the Centre for Advancement and Linkages confirms this and nominates the student.

Requests for a dormitory place close on the same dates (15 May and 15 November).
Academic intake: Winter semester (autumn) and summer semester (spring) · Next expected cycle: Nominations for the summer semester are accepted from 1 September to 1 November each year.
Before submitting an external application, contact the relevant MOAUM faculty or the office responsible for international linkages to confirm eligibility and whether institutional nomination is required.
How to apply
MOAUM must nominate the student to the University of Zagreb using Zagreb's online nomination form. Only after nomination does Zagreb email the student instructions and access to its online application system. No application can be made by the student alone.
Step 1: Confirm with MOAUM that the route exists
Ask the Centre for Advancement and Linkages whether the agreement with the University of Zagreb covers student exchange, for which faculties and levels, and whether MOAUM is nominating students.
Step 2: Choose courses at a Zagreb faculty
The Learning Agreement may list only courses offered by the receiving faculty or academy.
Step 3: MOAUM nominates the student
The home university submits the nomination through Zagreb's online form within the nomination window. Students are not allowed to nominate themselves.
Step 4: Complete Zagreb's online application
After nomination, Zagreb sends the student instructions and access to its online application system; upload the required documents by the application deadline.
Step 5: Arrange visa, temporary stay, insurance and housing
Nigerian citizens need a visa for Croatia and, for a stay longer than 90 days, a temporary stay permit. See the visa note.

Funding and costs
Funding not specified.
The University of Zagreb states that students in a formal exchange programme are exempt from tuition fees. No grant, stipend or travel support for students coming under a bilateral agreement was found on Zagreb's pages, so living and travel costs should be assumed to fall on the student unless MOAUM confirms otherwise.
Financial requirements: The University of Zagreb's guidance for non-EU students applying for temporary stay lists proof of financial means of at least 362.25 euros per month plus 869.40 euros for travel costs. Its rough living cost guide is about 600 euros per month in a student dormitory and about 1,100 euros per month in private accommodation.
Visa, travel and stay
Croatia's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs states that Nigerian holders of ordinary passports need a visa, that applications are submitted at the nearest Croatian diplomatic mission or consular post or at the visa application centre in Abuja, and that enquiries go to the Embassy of Croatia in Pretoria, South Africa. For study longer than 90 days a temporary stay permit is also required. The Ministry of the Interior states that the application for temporary stay is submitted at a Croatian diplomatic mission or consular post; students in higher education who need a visa may alternatively submit it at the police administration in Croatia. Conditions: proof of the purpose of stay, a valid travel document (valid at least three months beyond the stay), means of support, health insurance and, on a first application, proof of no criminal convictions. Temporary stay is granted for up to one year. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs also lists a health certificate not older than 90 days. Fees listed by the Ministry of the Interior: 46.45 euros for temporary stay, 31.85 euros for the biometric permit and 9.29 euros for its issuance. The University of Zagreb adds that visas cannot be applied for or extended inside Croatia, that documents must be translated into Croatian and certified, and that the criminal record certificate must carry an apostille and be no older than six months. Confirm the current procedure with the Embassy before applying.

Accommodation and insurance: The dormitory request is part of Zagreb's online exchange application; Zagreb does not guarantee accommodation but says students from overseas and from countries with a visa regime are given priority. Non-EU students must hold travel medical insurance for the whole stay with cover of at least 30,000 euros including repatriation and emergency treatment.
