The Vice-Chancellor of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, has joined fellow Vice-Chancellors, Ministers of Education and a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at a UniPod leadership meeting focused on advancing innovation across Nigerian universities.

The meeting featured a UNDP delegation led by its Resident Representative, Ms. Elsie Attafuah, and provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for positioning Nigerian universities at the centre of innovation, research, entrepreneurship and national development.

Positioning Universities as Hubs of Innovation

Discussions at the meeting centred on strengthening the capacity of universities to drive innovation, promote research and development, and transform academic knowledge into practical solutions to societal challenges.

The engagement highlighted the importance of collaboration among higher education institutions, government and international development partners in building a sustainable innovation ecosystem. Such partnerships can create opportunities for students, researchers and innovators to develop ideas into technologies, enterprises and solutions that address Nigeria's developmental needs.

UniPod initiatives offer a platform for advancing this vision by encouraging creativity, practical experimentation, entrepreneurship and collaboration between academia and industry.

MOAUM's Commitment to Research and Innovation

Professor Alabar's participation reflects MOAUM's engagement with broader conversations on the future of higher education and the growing role of universities in driving innovation and sustainable development.

As universities respond to changing technological, economic and societal needs, strengthening research capacity, supporting emerging innovators and building strategic partnerships remain important pathways to achieving greater institutional and national impact.

MOAUM continues to pursue opportunities that support academic excellence, research advancement, innovation and meaningful contributions to the development of Benue State and Nigeria.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collective action in ensuring that Nigerian universities serve not only as centres of learning but also as catalysts for innovation, enterprise and sustainable national development.
